The project

Grand Hotel Excelsior Malta is a five-star hotel on the waterfront in Floriana, overlooking Marsamxett Harbour and the skyline of Valletta. M7Alpha designed and built the hotel’s website and hosts and maintains it, and the project also included e-commerce work and a custom internal system. This case study looks at how one website presents a hotel that is also a conference venue, a wedding venue, a spa and a dining destination.

What makes a hotel like the Excelsior hard to fit on one website?

The Excelsior is several businesses under one roof, and each has its own audience. A couple planning a weekend, a company organising a conference and a local family booking Sunday brunch all arrive on the same homepage looking for very different things.

The hotel’s offer is broad: rooms and suites, restaurants and bars, meeting and conference venues, weddings, a spa run by Carisma Spa & Wellness with a heated indoor pool, an outdoor pool, a gym, a private yacht marina and what the hotel describes as the only private sandy beach in Valletta. The website had to give all of this room without overwhelming anyone.

How is the website organised for different visitors?

The navigation gives each audience its own way in, so nobody has to dig through content meant for someone else.

Section Who it is for What they find
Accommodation Holiday and business guests Room types from the Classic Room to the Presidential Suite
Dining Guests and local residents Each restaurant and bar, with its own opening hours
Meetings & Events Companies and event planners Venue descriptions, sizes and a direct line to the events team
Weddings Couples Ceremony and celebration venues
Facilities and Spa & Gym Guests and spa visitors Pools, beach, gym, marina and spa details
Special Offers & Packages Guests and locals Seasonal offers such as Sunday brunch, afternoon tea and festive menus

The homepage works as a summary of all of these, with a short welcome that answers the first question any visitor has: what is this place and where is it? It is a waterfront hotel with views of Marsamxett Harbour and Valletta, and the page says so in its opening lines.

How does the site handle the practical detail?

It puts the detail where people need it, written plainly. A large hotel generates many small questions, and the website answers them on the page instead of leaving them to the phone.

  • Opening hours: each restaurant and bar lists its own times, from breakfast at Spice Island to the Harbour View lobby lounge, which is open around the clock.
  • Seasonal notes: the facilities page says when the beach bar and pool bar close for winter, so guests know what to expect.
  • Venue specifications: spaces such as the Grand Ballroom and Floriani Hall are described with floor area, ceiling height and access, which is what an event planner needs to draw up a shortlist.
  • Direct contacts: dining, events and the spa each have their own phone number or email, so enquiries reach the right team first time.

Specific, factual content like this is also what AI assistants such as ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, Copilot and Perplexity rely on when someone asks for a Malta hotel with a private beach near Valletta or a conference venue with harbour views.

How do the room pages help guests choose?

Each room is described by what makes it different, above all the view. The Deluxe Sea Front Room with Terrace describes a 180-degree view over the harbour and Manoel Island, the Panoramic rooms describe 270-degree views that take in the fortifications, and the Presidential Suite sets out its two bedrooms, terrace and corner position.

The descriptions are honest about limits too. The Classic Room page states that the room has no balcony. That kind of clarity sets the right expectations before booking, which protects the guest experience and the hotel’s reviews.

What else did the project include?

Alongside the public website, M7Alpha’s work for the hotel includes e-commerce and a custom internal system, and we host and maintain the site. A hotel of this size relies on tools behind the scenes as much as on the pages guests see, and it helps when the same team understands both. Our internal systems service explains how we approach custom web apps for businesses with more complex operations.

What can other large hotels and venues learn?

A hotel with many offers needs a website that separates them clearly and answers practical questions early. In short: give each audience its own section, publish the detail that people would otherwise phone to ask, describe rooms by what makes them different, and route every enquiry to the team that can answer it.

Frequently asked questions

Who designed the Grand Hotel Excelsior Malta website?

M7Alpha Creative Studios, a web design, development and branding agency in Żurrieq, Malta, designed and built the Grand Hotel Excelsior Malta website and hosts and maintains it. M7Alpha’s work for the hotel also includes e-commerce and a custom internal system.

Where is Grand Hotel Excelsior Malta?

Grand Hotel Excelsior Malta is on Great Siege Road in Floriana, on the waterfront overlooking Marsamxett Harbour, Manoel Island and the skyline of Valletta.

How should a hotel website present its meeting and event venues?

Give each venue its own description with the facts planners compare: floor area, ceiling height, natural light, access for equipment and the set-ups it suits. Add a direct contact for the events team, so enquiries do not go through general reception.

Should a hotel list restaurant opening hours on its website?

Yes. Opening hours are one of the most common questions guests and local diners ask, and listing them for each restaurant and bar saves phone calls. It is worth noting seasonal changes too, such as outdoor bars that close in winter.
