Case study
Soċjetà Mużikali Santa Katarina
The Soċjetà Mużikali Santa Katarina V.M. is the Santa Katarina band club in Żurrieq, Malta, the first musical society founded in the town, with a band, a music academy and several volunteer committees. M7Alpha, whose studio is also in Żurrieq, designed and built the society's Maltese-language website and hosts and maintains it.

The project
The Soċjetà Mużikali Santa Katarina V.M. is the Santa Katarina band club in Żurrieq, dedicated to its patron saint, Saint Catherine, Virgin and Martyr, and the first musical society founded in the town. M7Alpha designed and built the society’s Maltese-language website and hosts and maintains it. Our own studio is in Żurrieq, so this was a website for neighbours: here we explain how it gives a large, volunteer-run organisation with many moving parts one clear place online.
What does the society do?
It runs a band, teaches music and helps organise the feast of Santa Katarina, alongside cultural and social activities for its members. Its statute sets out those aims: teaching music, supporting the feast, offering recreation for members and encouraging cultural talent among them.
The band plays concerts around Malta and has toured abroad. The society offers its instruments and music lessons free of charge, and its musicians give their services voluntarily in return. Its music academy has grown beyond solfège and band instruments to include music theory, choral singing and piano, and it has a children’s choir, Vox Coeli.
Who is the website written for?
It is written first for the people of Żurrieq: members, musicians, students, parents and everyone who follows the feast. That is why the site is in Maltese, the language the club uses every day, with section names that members already recognise from life at the club.
The homepage keeps things simple: a short introduction to the society and its place in Żurrieq, a section for activities and news, and the club’s contact details at Palazz Alexandria, Misraħ ir-Repubblika. Visitors who want more can go straight into the menu.
How do you organise a club with so many parts online?
By grouping everything under a few plain headings that match how the club is actually run.
| Menu heading | In English | What it holds |
|---|---|---|
| Dwarna | About us | Storja (history) and Skop (the society’s aims) |
| Banda | The band | The band, the Akkademja tal-Mużika and the Surmastrijiet (bandmasters) |
| Attivitajiet Li Jmiss | Upcoming activities | What is coming up at the club |
| Avvenimenti Speċjali | Special events | Highlights beyond the regular calendar |
| Media and Amministrazzjoni | Media and administration | The club’s media and who runs the society |
| Sezzjonijiet | Sections | The volunteer sub-committees |
| Kuntatt and Issieħeb | Contact and join | How to get in touch and apply for membership |
The Storja page tells the society’s history as a detailed timeline of presidents, bandmasters and milestones. For a club whose identity rests on its heritage, that page is as important as any news item.
Why does each sub-committee have its own page?
Because much of the club’s work is done by volunteer sub-committees, and each one has its own people, activities and following. The Sezzjonijiet menu gives every one of them a page:
- Sotto Kumitat Banda: the band committee.
- Sotto Kumitat Żgħażagħ: the youth committee.
- Sotto Kumitat Nisa: the women’s committee.
- Sotto Kumitat tan-Nar: the fireworks committee.
- Sotto Kumitat Armar: the feast decorations committee.
- Sotto Kumitat Kultura: the culture committee.
- Sotto Kumitat Radju: the radio committee.
Giving each committee a page recognises the volunteers behind it and lets members find the part of club life they care about most, whether that is the fireworks, the decorations or the youth activities.
How does the site help the society grow?
It makes joining easy and shows newcomers why they should. Issieħeb (Join) sits in the main menu, and the main pages end with an invitation to apply for membership. The band and academy pages explain that lessons and instruments are free, one of the strongest reasons for a family to get involved, and the contact details appear on every page.
A clear, factual site also helps people who ask AI assistants such as ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, Copilot and Perplexity where their child can learn a band instrument in Żurrieq. The assistants can only recommend what a website states plainly.

Frequently asked questions
Who designed the Soċjetà Mużikali Santa Katarina website?
M7Alpha Creative Studios, a web design, development and branding agency in Żurrieq, Malta, designed and built the website of the Soċjetà Mużikali Santa Katarina V.M. at stcatherineband.org.mt. M7Alpha also hosts and maintains the site.
What is the Soċjetà Mużikali Santa Katarina V.M.?
It is the Santa Katarina band club in Żurrieq, Malta, dedicated to Saint Catherine, Virgin and Martyr. The society runs a band and a music academy, helps organise the feast of Santa Katarina and holds cultural and social activities for its members.
Does the Santa Katarina band club teach music?
Yes. Its music academy offers free lessons and instruments, covering band instruments, solfège, music theory, choral singing and piano. It also has a children’s choir called Vox Coeli.
How can a volunteer-run club keep its website up to date?
Keep the structure simple, with a news or activities section that committee members can update themselves. Leaving hosting, security and software updates to a web agency means volunteers only need to add content, not maintain the site.
